Cap Blanc Nez

Cap Blanc Nez

Cap blanc nez (Cap white Nose - In english) is a cape situated in Escalles.

Cap Blanc Nez, fragile site, listed and protected, is unquestionably one of the finest French natural coastal areas. Located in the town of Escalles, a small village nestled in a pretty valley, 10 km south of Calais and 23 miles north of Boulogne sur Mer The impressive Cap Blanc-Nez opens a view on endless beaches clean and beautiful overhanging cliffs (the highest point is 133 meters), facing his counterparts BRITISH often well visible up to 40 kms.

On top of these cliffs and chalky hills, has retained a particularly exposed to moor salt spray carried by strong winds from the north and west. Crops and grassy lawns are home to herds, which were near to the bomb craters of World War II still visible. Cretaceous limestone contains numerous Amonites and other fossils as well as flint and marcasite.

On the summit stands a large obelisk tribute to Canadian veterans.

Nestled in a valley at the southern foot of Cap Blanc-Nez, the small town of Escalles has several hotels and restaurants, and camping. A small road provides direct access to the beach by a notch (notch) in the bottom of the cliff. It is also the starting point of a path along the edge of the cliffs. This beautiful walk requires prudence and it is imperative not to approach the edge of the empty pieces of rock that can be detached at any time. Similarly, at the foot of the cliffs, it is necessary to take into account the high tide to avoid the risk to find themselves trapped.
