Only "Fort-Lock" built by Vauban to protect access to Calais. Originally a ford could spend the little river Hames, then a bridge was established. 1525, an English fort protected the windows to flood the area. 1558 the Duke of Guise emparre it. 1677, Vauban rebuilt a fort on the river on horseback.

To the west of Calais, in this place marshy waters of the river Hames, crossed the shingle bank of Pierrettes before emptying into the cove Neuma.

A bridge-lock strategy was established to take a right on tonlieu merchants and travelers.

After the capture of Calais, the English built a fort by a causeway accessible guarded by the castle of Sangatte.
